A Campaign of Collaboration and Commitment
HEDECS Cameroon is immensely proud to wrap up a truly impactful Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, under the powerful theme “Close the Care Gap,” we demonstrated our unwavering commitment to ensuring life-saving knowledge reaches every corner of our community.
Our success was amplified through crucial partnerships that allowed us to extend our reach and expertise. We are grateful for the close collaboration with the Regional Delegation of Public Health, North West Region, the Bamenda Regional Hospital, and several other dedicated Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
Bamenda Street Outreach

In the North West Region, our dedicated teams, working hand-in-hand with our partners, took to the streets of Bamenda. Our objective was:
- Distribution of Informative Flyers: Spreading clear, concise facts about breast cancer.
- VITAL Demonstrations: Most importantly, we demonstrated the vital techniques for daily breast self-examinations.
Empowering women with the knowledge to self-diagnose is a fundamental step in closing the care gap, proving that Early detection saves lives!
Empowering the Next Generation: Our School Sensitization Tour
Following our collaborative outreach, we focused our efforts on Yaoundé, successfully conducting vital sensitization sessions across three major secondary schools. We empowered thousands of students and staff with this life-saving knowledge, urging them to make breast health a priority.
The core message shared in all schools was direct and action-oriented: Spot the Signs, Take Control, and Live Healthier.
- Oxford Comprehensive High School (Yaoundé)
We kicked off our campaign engaging nearly 300 students and staff at their general assembly on October 20, 2025.
Emphasizing the causes (unhealthy lifestyles, genetics) and the crucial signs of the disease. We distributed pink ribbons as a visual commitment to the fight.

- Franky Secondary School (Yaoundé)
We carried the momentum to Franky Secondary School on October 22, 2025, successfully informing another large group of students and teachers.
Stressing the importance of early diagnosis and consistent breast health checks. The session concluded with students asking valuable follow-up questions, showing genuine engagement.

- Manna Group College (Yaoundé)
Our final stop in the school tour involved targeted sensitization with the dedicated students of the Health and Environmental Club.
Providing in-depth training on effective self-examination techniques and discussing the role of professional medical screening in survival rates.

The Life-Saving Knowledge We Shared
In all settings from the streets of Bamenda to the classrooms of Yaoundé our core educational pillars remained consistent:
- Spot the Signs: We highlighted key symptoms that are often noticed but neglected, such as lumps, sharp pains, nipple discharge, or sudden changes in breast size/color/position.
- Take Control: We trained girls on effective self-examination techniques, stressing that early detection is the number one factor in increasing survival rates.
- Lifestyle Matters: We discussed controllable risk factors like unhealthy lifestyles (obesity, alcohol) and the critical importance of regular, professional medical screening.
The month of October may be over, but the fight against breast cancer is not. HEDECS Cameroon urges everyone to remember the knowledge shared.
Make breast self-examination a regular habit it only takes minutes but can save a life. Encourage your loved ones, friends, and family to do the same. We will continue to spread awareness, support early detection, and ensure every woman has access to the care she deserves.
